M.O.D.A. presents...Mad Couture

Sunday, November 7, 2010

Western Michigan University students are organizing a fall fashion show to benefit the Kalamazoo Humane Society.

Merchandising Opportunities Design Association (M.O.D.A.) will present “Mad Couture” November 12-13 at Cityscape Event Center in downtown Kalamazoo.

“We are so thrilled to be able to donate to such a wonderful organization here in Kalamazoo,” said Deanna Ansara. M.O.D.A. president. “For years, the Kalamazoo Humane Society has cared for desperate animals in need, and has also been a leader in animal cruelty prevention and awareness.”

There will be three presentations of “Mad Couture.” One show on November 12 will begin at 8 p.m. A matinee will begin at 2 p.m. on November 13, and the final show will begin later that night at 8 p.m.

“We are very excited to be back at Cityscape Event Center,” said Alana Nelson, M.O.D.A. vice president. “We have worked with Cityscape in previous years, and are thrilled to work with them again. The event center is perfect for Mad Couture and will only add to the show’s magnificence.”

General admission tickets for the evening shows are $10. V.I.P. seating is available in advance for $25, and includes premium seating, a pre-show banquet, and a gift. Tickets for all shows are currently being sold through Miller Auditorium.

General admission tickets are available for the matinee show and cost five dollars. General admission tickets will be sold at each show. Contact the M.O.D.A. executive board in advance for V.I.P. tickets.

M.O.D.A. will provide free transportation from the Bernhard Center to Cityscape on Friday and Saturday evenings. A shuttle bus will board at 6:45 p.m. and will depart at 7 p.m.  A second shuttle will leave at 7:15 p.m. Transportation will be provided back to campus after the show.

“We have decided to implement a free shuttle bus service from campus to our show because we want to limit any obstacles that stand in the way of people attending our show, that includes transportation,” said Ansara. “We believe this free service will increase attendance of students residing in the dorms that want to come to the show, but are without vehicles.”

“Mad Couture” is produced entirely by WMU students. Student designers will show individual collections featuring three to seven handmade garments.

Portfolio Hair and Day Spa will donate their services for the shows. DJ Peirce will be the show’s musical entertainer.

“Kalamazoo will definitely not want to miss this,” said Nelson.

M.O.D.A. is a registered student organization at WMU that was established in 1998 by two students in the Family and Consumer Sciences department studying textile and apparel studies. Today, the group has grown to include almost 100 student members.
