Early Fall Fashion

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WMU chapter.

The leaves are changing, the wind is blustering, the sun is still shining, and the weather can’t seem to make up its mind here at WMU. When the weather is as bipolar as it is in Michigan it’s never really the right time to swap out those short sleeved tops for leather jackets and sweaters because from the time you leave the house until the time you return you will have experienced 3 different climate zones!

But that’s what I love about fall in Michigan; one person might be wearing jean, a T-shirt, and slides while another might be rocking a cozy oversized sweater and a cute pair of block heeled booties and it is all completely acceptable.

I’m here to help you maneuver through this complicated weather with 6 fall inspired looks that can be mixed, matched, and layered perfectly for the early months of fall!

Look 1: Sweater Weather This look is perfect for your Monday blues. This oversized turtle neck and leggings is packed with comfort and warmth while still maintaining a chic and put together look. Throw on your leather jacket to protect you from the chilly weather as you walk to your 8am’s with simple black booties that are certainly made for walking across campus!

Look 2: Edgy Fall Style This edgy look will transition well from class to those late night study session. You’ll maintain your rocker look by pairing an oversized graphic T with a boxy leather jacket decked out in silver hardware. Style your bottom half in distressed boyfriend jeans for comfort and a sleek black block heeled bootie.

Top your style off with accessories such as a large tote bag that will fit all your books and essentials.

Look 3: Mustard Yellow On Wednesday’s we wear… mustard yellow? This sweater is the perfect for fall. The color matches the changing leaves, the off the shoulder look amps up your style, and the cozy knit and slouchy fit is the right amount of comfort and cuteness all in one. Pair this sweater with high rise stretch denim and matching booties. Amp it up with a printed ascot scarf, a floppy fedora and a large bag for added style.

Look 4: College Night You’re done with classes for the week and it’s time to hit up the Old Goat for drink specials and a little dancing. This cute denim skirt, turtle neck, and high knee boots is the way to go! Layer your look with a colored moto jacket and embellished cross body bag to bring in the weekend!

Look 5: Game Day It’s game day and the Broncos are ready to Row the Boat! Pull out your favorite college sweater, fitted black jeans or leggings, and strap on those UGG boots as you go out and tailgate and cheer on your favorite team.

Look 6: Little Black Dress It’s Saturday night and you’re ready to go out with your girls. This look requires two simple pieces. A little black t-shirt dress and black over the knee boots. Cover up with a distressed denim jacket while you roam the streets and tie it around your waist when you’ve danced so hard you no longer take the heat. A leather studded backpack is the perfect carry on for all of your essentials plus it’s hard to forget when it’s strapped to your back!

If you aren’t the party type this look still works perfectly for a simple date night with bae!

As far as Sunday goes, we all know you’re either too hungover or too lazy to get out of bed today. Stay in your PJ’s, finish up those assignments for the week, catch up on your TV shows, and reminisce on how stylish and good your looked all week long!
