Name:
Kelly Newton
Year:
2018
Hometown:
Hanover, Va
Major(s):
Biology, Kinesiology
Activities on Campus:
I’m involved in a campus ministry, and volunteer at a retirement home.
Describe Yourself in Three Words:
Introverted, sarcastic, foodie
Go-To Starbucks Order:
In the summer, there is nothing more refreshing than a giant sweetened iced coffee with milk. And in the winter, I get a hot latte or Americano.
Favorite Book:
I’m so bad at picking favorites! There are so many books that I love for different reasons and that resonate with different parts of my life. But I think I would have to say the Harry Potter series. (I’m already cheating because that’s 7, I know). I came to read these waaay later in life than the rest of the universe, I read them fall semester of my junior year here. Honestly though, I’m glad that was my first exposure to it, because I feel like I could appreciate the nuances that much more. I’m also a big fan of The Perks of Being a Wallflower and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. Apparently I’m a fan of coming of age stories.
Favorite Movie:
My serious, makes you think about things and feel all the feelings choice is Good Will Hunting. Robin Williams’ wit and poignancy gets me every time. And my funny, cult classic pick is The Princess Bride, it’s so quotable!
Hobbies:
Riding horses, cooking, reading, exercising, and occasionally knitting if I’m feeling particularly in tune with my grandmother side.
Career Goals:
I would like to be a physician, either in Internal Medicine or Geriatrics.
What is one thing on your bucket list?
I don’t have a list per se, but I love traveling and want to go as many places as possible.
What is one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?
I can’t ride a bike. I used to be able to, but contrary to the popular saying, I did in fact forget how.
Describe your perfect day in Williamsburg:
I would make it a Saturday, so I could go to the farmer’s market in the morning to stock up on yummy veggies and pet everyone’s dogs. Then I would go to Aromas for brunch, and order a bacon, egg, and cheese croissant with an iced coffee – one of my favorite meals ever. The rest of the day, I’d spend outside with friends. Either walking around DoG Street, going kayaking on Matoaka, picnicking at College Creek, or all of the above, before having brownies and a movie night with the roomies.
Favorite Restaurant in the ‘Burg:
For breakfast and lunch, I would say either Carrot Tree or Aromas, and for dinner probably Nawab. Again, I’m really bad at picking favorites!
Your favorite memory from your time here:
Shockingly, I can’t pick just one. What I’ll probably remember later on when I’m reminiscing though is all the fun, goofing around, but also incredibly deep and life altering conversations with my roommates. They’re the actual best.
What is your favorite thing about William and Mary?
Definitely the people. Everyone is so wonderfully weird and crazy passionate about what they’re doing, it’s just so inspiring to be surrounded by that all the time.
If you were President of the College for a day, what would you do?
Puppies and free food everywhere.
