5 Female-Powered TV Episodes You Should Watch For Galentine’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WM chapter.

Galentine’s day is a great way to spend time with your gal pals. Instead of getting dolled up and going out, stay in and check out some of these shows chock full of girl power!

5. “The One With Unagi” – F.R.I.E.ND.S.

Ross is convinced he has “unagi”, a mystical martial arts sense. Meanwhile, Rachel and Phoebe are convinced that “unagi” is actually a type of fish, and [to a greater degree] that Ross is a douche. Hijinks ensue in the subsequent team-up against Ross’s pretentiousness, and the ending of the episode is hilarious and decidedly satisfying.

4. “You Call It Madness, But I Call It Love” – One Tree Hill

Ok, this episode is more for fans of OTH who are looking for a rewatch, not newbies to jump into the show. (The Psycho Derek storyline is convoluted enough while watching chronologically.) But if you’re already a fan, there’s nothing better than watching estranged best friends Brooke and Peyton reunite after nearly a season at war with each other. And they don’t just “reunite”, they band together to take down a predatory stalker with some kick-ass moves. Hell yeah!

3. The entire series of… – Marvel’s Jessica Jones

This is one for the long haul, but there’s no better day to start it than Galentine’s Day. Admittedly, this show isn’t very “fluffy”…however, if you ever wanted a series where it’s literally just multiple women continuously being badasses, then this is it!

2. The entire series of… – Grown-ish

Here’s another series where I can’t just recommend one episode. However, unlike Jessica Jones, it is definitely possible to binge-watch all of Grown-ish on Galentine’s Day. (It’s only recently premiered, with 7 20-minute episodes out.) A spinoff of ABC’s Black-ish, the series is a unique force in and of itself. It’s intersectional, thoughtful, funny, and tells the story of protagonist Zoey Johnson as she starts her freshman year of college. What more could a Her Campus reader want?

1. “Galentine’s Day” – Parks and Rec

Oh Ann, you beautiful tropical sunfish. Of course I needed to finish this list with the episode that forever memorialized Galentine’s Day. We may not have the time to make our friends the hand-crocheted flower pens, mosaics made of diet soda, and 5,000 word essays like Leslie did, but everyone definitely has 20 minutes to spare with their girls to watch this heart-warming episode.
