What Your Library Choice Says About You

What Your Library Choice Says About You

They say you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but perhaps you can judge a person based on where they hit the books.  Even though Madison has a wide variety of libraries to choose from, many students tend to stay faithful to one library for their studies.  That being said, you can find out a lot about a person based their library choice.

 Memorial Library:

If you go to Memorial, you are there to get it in (whether that means getting knowledge into your brain, or with a study buddy in the stacks, it’s up to you).  You are also fearless– considering the terrifying, monotone voice that announces, “the library will be closing at midnight,” doesn’t stop you from going there.

College Library:

If you go to College, you like a challenge: you know there is no chance of finding a table near an outlet, especially during midterm season.  You are also a social butterfly.  While you claim you’re there to get work done, in the end you really spend about 50% of your time people watching.  If you get a table next to the window, you will spend about 75% of your time staring at the lake.  If you’re spending a lot of time people watching, odds are you’re trying to scope out the athletes.  Let’s just say books aren’t the only thing you are checking out at this library.

Historical Society:

If you study at the Historical Society, you are there to enjoy the beautiful architecture of the building and channel your inner Harry Potter.  You aren’t ashamed of being a muggle and say Avada Kedavra to the haters.  Since this library closes at 9pm, you most likely enjoy your sleep and are not a fan of all-nighters.

Grainger:

If you’re at Grainger chances are you are academically smart and a member of the business school.  If you’re not in the business school, you’re smart enough to know that an excessive amount of men in suits hang out here.  I’m no economics major, but I know there is both a high supply and demand for these good looking businessmen.

Wendt:

If you’re at this library chances are you are an engineering nerd who is there for the academic resources.  Guys aren’t here to pick up girls, as females are considered a minority in the engineering world.  If you are lady at this library, most likely you are an engineer, or earning your wife degree and scoping out a future engineering husband who will one day be drowning in a pile of money.

Whether you find yourself pulling all-nighters at College, or feeling studious in the comfort of the Historical Society, we’re thankful for all the awesome libraries Madison has to offer! So this weekend, instead of making a beeline to your usual study spot, try out one of the other 42 libraries on campus!
