Campus Celebrity: Annie Paul

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wisconsin chapter.

It’s safe to say that next year’s senior class will without doubt have the most caring, passionate and not to mention cutest vice president to represent them. Whether this campus celeb is attending sorority formals, cheering on the badgers on game day, relaxing at the terrace or just hanging out with Aaron Rodgers there is no doubt she is doing it with some major Badger pride.

Campus involvement:I am currently a member of Delta Gamma, Officer of the Wisconsin Union/Wisconsin Union Directorate, Union Council member, Badger Volunteers Intern at the Morgridge Center for Public Service and I previously was Involved as an executive board member in both College Democrats and Amnesty International.

What’s your favorite spot on campus?Undoubtedly the Memorial Union Terrace. Whether the Terrace is bustling with people in the summertime or soothingly silent frosted over in the winter, standing on the terrace and staring out at the lake can be a magical and humbling experience.  I realize how cheesy that sounds but I think people can relate to those feelings and that’s what makes the terrace a consistently iconic Madison spot. Oh, and McDonald’s on Mills during ALL hours of the day.

What is your favorite thing about UW-Madison?It is the perfect mix of what a college experience should encompass! Not only are we blessed with a gorgeous campus (we have lakes & the Wisconsin State Capitol at our fingertips!), but UW-Madison is also known for its outstanding academics, enriching extracurricular opportunities, top-notch athletics/sport culture, and a ridiculously fun social scene. There’s a reason why Badgers are so passionate about Madison: we live in a utopia.

Why did you want to get involved with ASM?My main commitment this year has been serving the Wisconsin Union as a Vice President and my experience has been extremely enriching thus far. However, I feel like I have been engaged in a variety of different activities across campus which have provided me the opportunities to interact with all types of students and I desired to bring forth my experiences to contribute to campus on a larger scale; that is why I ran for Senior Class Vice President.

What is your main goal you want to accomplish as senior class vice president?Through the senior class officer initiatives, I strive to unite seniors from all different backgrounds and interests and to accurately represent the collective senior perspective. Representing the collective senior viewpoint is essential when selecting a Senior Class gift, creating Senior-wide events, and of course, when deciding upon a commencement speaker. I hope to work with the other officers to ensure that students have a continuously active voice in whatever we are working on in order to provide seniors a phenomenal last year of college.

What is the best advice you could give to freshman at UW-Madison?Keep an open mind ALWAYS.  Be open to trying new things and meeting new people (even towards the end of your college experience) – you cannot anticipate the types of experiences and memories you will be creating throughout the next number of years and by keeping an open mind you will ensure that you will leave Madison with fewer regrets and with a much more memorable and fulfilling experience.
