The 5 Best and 5 Worst Moments of the Grammy’s

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wisconsin chapter.

The Best

1. One of the best moments was watching Kayne almost repeating history.

Everyone remembers when Kayne interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech at the 2009 VMA’s, but I think it’s safe to say that no one thought he would ever pull a stunt like that again. At this years Grammy’s he definitely thought about it when Beck won Album of the Year over his home girl Beyoncé . Thankfully he realized just in time not to make the same mistake twice.

2. Beyoncé proving once again that she is a Queen.

Beyoncé’s performance was outstanding. Her vocal talent is incredible and she still remains so humble even though she is arguably the most famous woman in the world. She literally commanded the stage. Not to mention her thank you speech consisted of her thanking Jay-Z and Blue Ivy saying “I love you deep” Beyoncé’s life is goal and that is just how the cookie crumbles.

3. Kristen Wiig becoming the face of Sia.

When I realized that it was Kristen Wigg performing I thought the performance was about to become a comedy, but instead I was amazed. The performance was captivating and possibly one of the most intriguing of the night. It was definitely disappointing that Sia still hasn’t shown her face. I’m sure her face couldn’t be anymore heinous than that wig she was wearing. Luckily, her vocals were killer and it takes real talent to give an incredible performance without showing your face.

4. Sam Smith calling out his Ex. God Bless.

There is nothing better than being able to call out the guy that broke your heart, much less on national television right after you’ve won four Grammy’s. You know that heart-breaker is kicking himself for ending it with the most successful man of the night. Sam Smith turned his heartbreak into success. Teach me your ways oh wise one.

5. Rihanna going from Quinceanera attire to classy business woman in 2.5.

Any woman who can make a business suit looks sexy deserves an award. Not only that, but also Rihanna killed it vocally. Her attire for the evening may have been a little questionable, but she made up for her Quinceanera look with her classy black suit and fierce attitude on stage.

The Worst

1. One of the worst moment of the Grammy’s was Gwen Stefani.

Gwen looked absolutely stunning (don’t get me wrong) but her performance was beyond terrible. The fact that her bad performance took the focus off of the beautiful Adam Levine is unforgiveable.

2. Ed Sheeran being completely under appreciated.

Okay this one might be a little biased considering I think Ed Sheeran is the best thing to happen to the music industry since iTunes but let’s face it, “Multiply” is lyrically one of the best albums of the 21st century. Also, “Thinking Out Loud” is utter perfection. Plus, this adorable and humble Brit put on a killer performance. I’m not ashamed to say that at one point I actually threw almonds at the TV when Ed didn’t win the final award for which he was nominated.

3.  Taylor Swift’s awkward dancing.

I love that this girl is always herself but her dancing is so out of control. She looks like a giraffe learning to hip-hop. The way Pharell looked at her was priceless. It seems he was not amused my T-Swift busting a move. But hey, at least she looked flawless. If I were as successful as Taylor Swift I would awkwardly dance myself all the way to the bank.

4.  Beck winning Album of the Year.

I’m sorry but was I the only one who had never heard of this person before? I think it’s a little ridiculous that someone who is largely unknown by the masses is winning one of the most prestigious awards of the night. I was waiting for Kayne to go to the mic and say “Does he even go here?”

… And in case you missed this GIF the first time

5.  LL Cool J was not as cool as his name would imply.

Although this was the fourth time Cool J has hosted the Grammy’s he had no wow factor. It’s time to give the job to someone a little younger and more relevant. Hopefully, someone who has a better sense of humor.  Maybe, someone who didn’t lick his lips a whopping 46 times while on screen. This is me begging LL Cool J to step down so we don’t have to suffer through another year of his bland hosting. Why isn’t Will Smith up there, or Justin Timberlake for that matter. Come on Grammy’s we all know you can do better.

So there we have it. The best and worst of the Grammy’s, in my opinion. We have all seen the Kanye/ Beck dilemma in social media along with Rihanna’s pink dress (if you can even call that a dress), hopefully the Oscar’s, in less than two weeks, has more bests than worsts.
