“American Horror Story: Cult” Connections to Other Seasons

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Winthrop chapter.

As much of an “American Horror Story” fan as I am and have been for the past seven seasons, watching the trailers and promos for this season got me feeling a little nervous. Would “Cult” be another flub season like “Hotel”? But luckily for fans everywhere, Ryan Murphy did it again!

“AHS: Cult” started out so scary it had my roommates and I curled up on the couch together, scared out of our wits, begging one another to be the one to turn on all the lights. It had us feeling frightened, confused, shocked and waiting in anticipation for the next episode–which is airing Tuesday at 9 p.m. on FX. Because “AHS: Cult” started out exactly the same way as “AHS: Freak Show” started—just a modern day version—my roomies and I took notice in some of the other similarities the episode had to the other seasons.

Here are just a few others I picked out!

Ally and Ivy own a restaurant called “Butchery on Main”

If you think back to last season, “AHS: My Roanoke Nightmare”, Kathy Bates starred as The Butcher—one of the scarier villains doing some crazy killing. Naming the restaurant Butchery on Main definitely hints at last season’s character!

Winter Anderson dresses like a witch

While heading to her interview with Ally and Ivy, she walks down a sidewalk, dressed in all black, looking like a witch from “Coven”. (And because I couldn’t find the scene of her walking, you can see how her outfit looks kind of like Coven’s outfits.) Do you see the resemblance?

The Changs’ murder-suicide

If you think back all the way to season one, “AHS: Murder House”, the gay couple and previous owners of the house, Chad and Patrick, are killed but are positioned to make it look like a murder-suicide. This is extremely similar to what happened with the Changs. The clown-cult completely murders the Changs but are found in a way that makes it look like a murder-suicide.

These are all of the hints we found in the first episode—and I’m sure there are more that we missed. We can’t wait to see the rest of the season!

Remember to tune in with all your best buds Tuesday at 9 p.m. on FX!
