In this day and age, there are approximately 7.6 million homeless animals. 3.9 million are dogs and about 3.4 million are cats. A large percentage of these animals are in shelters, and a lot of them have been surrendered by their previous owners.
For the past couple of months, my boyfriend and I had been dog searching. We knew we wanted an Australian Shepherd but we had been going back and forth as to whether we wanted to get a puppy or adopt one.
My boyfriend had been doing research, looking everywhere that he could and talking to people that he knew had Australian Shepherds. Our search didn’t go so great and we were about to stop looking, until one day Blake decided to look on Craigslist and we saw the ad to adopt a surrender Australian Shepherd. This sweet baby is only 2 years old and his owners could no longer keep him.
We rushed over to Taylorsville, NC and picked up our baby, Jasper.
Adopting a surrendered pet has been an adventure of its own. We had to be patient with him until he learned to trust us and the people around us. We also had to be patient with him while he got used to his new home and the environment around it. We have one of the kindest, loving and cutest dogs in the world, and I am so happy that we were able to provide him with a home.
He was very skeptical about us at first – but we expected that. He was also very sad because he missed his old home, but we expected that as well. However, I can honestly say that he loves his new parents and his new life. With love and happiness, any animal can find the right home.
