Sometimes it can be hard to find things to do in the winter. One can only watch so many movies before becoming excruciatingly bored. Here are a few activities I love doing with my friends during those long winter months.
*Skiing/Snowboarding: There are a few places around the area where you can go skiing. There is Saint Mary’s University Hiking and Trails, Great River Bluff Side State Park, Whitewater State Park, Bluff Side Park, and the Lumberyard. Equipment can only be rented at the Whitewater State Park. If you are a Saint Mary’s Student, then you can rent for free at Saint Mary’s University Hiking and Trails.
*Ice Skating: The lake lodge on Lake Winona offers skate rentals. They just require the yearly membership fee which is $15.
Bowling alley: You and your friends can always go to cosmic bowling at Westgate Bowl here in Winona. You can also get some food and drinks from their pub.
Sledding: This is one of my favorite things to do on a snowy day. To make it more fun, build a jump or race down the hill. Also, trying to “surf” down the hill can be a real challenge!
*Photo Shoot: Grab some of your friends and a camera and find a nice snowy spot. It is so much fun to mess around and get cute, snow-filled pictures.
Snow Shoes: Just like ice skates, you can rent snowshoes at the Lake Lodge. This is also included in the yearly $15 fee.
Snowball fight: This is probably one of the most fun activities to do with my friends in the winter. It is also probably one of the easiest activities to do. All you need is snow and people!
*Cabin Weekend: You and your friends can go away for the weekend to a cabin in the woods. It is so pretty to see the fresh snow all over and stuck in the trees.
Hot Chocolate Night-In: This is great for a cold night in. Drinking some warm hot chocolate and doing spa things or gossiping can be a lot of fun for everyone!
There are many ways to have fun with your friends this winter, and these are just a few ideas. All you have to do is use your imagination to find a variety of things to do.
