6 Benevolent Blessings

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Winona chapter.

In honor of the well-known, greatly appreciated, and long-awaited Thanksgiving, I wanted to count my blessings more in depth. Every day, I take time to journal and write out my thoughts. These thoughts already consist of things I’m grateful for, but I’ve decided to get creative with it this time. I hope my appreciative acrostic inspires and uplifts you during this time of thanks.

True friends. Cliché, I know. But once you find the genuine ones, life goes by with purpose. Whenever I hear the song “True Friend” by Hannah Montana, I can’t help but think of my besties.

Health. I’m thankful that I am able to care for all aspects of my well-being. Staying mentally and physically healthy allows me to be the best I can be at all times.

All My Loving” by The Beatles. My second favorite next to “Nowhere Man.” This song puts me in a chipper mood and encourages dancing.

New days. I am a total morning person. I look forward to the mornings and the new day the sun brings.

Kin. Thankful for the loving relationship I have with both my close and extended family. I’m thankful we get to spend this joyous holiday together.

School. Believe it or not, I love school. I am so thankful to live in a country full of opportunities.

This is just a slim list of my gratifications. It’s one thing to realize what you have, but it’s another to be grateful for it. Tell your friends and family how much you care about them, and go out of your way to do something for someone. Don’t forget to be thankful during the rest of the year, too!

Gretchen is a junior at Winona State University majoring in Health Ed and Phy Ed with minors in Adaptive PE and Adventure Ed! She enjoys all things outdoors, she's a peanut butter fanatic, and Proverbs 31:26 is her favorite Bible verse. Gretchen is an RA in the resident halls and a Small Group Leader for a campus ministry, and she enjoys all the Lord equips her to do!
I love exploring the outdoors, writing, whales, and have a major sweet tooth for cheesecake! Volleyball and hockey are my favorite sports to play and watch. When it comes to writing, I love it. I truly enjoy being able to write articles and stories about topics people would enjoy reading.
