The Pant Trend We Never Saw Coming

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wilfrid Laurier chapter.

The day has finally come where the flared jeans of our childhood return in vengeance! BUT, before you write this trend off as impossible, let me show you how chic the flare jean can actually be in 2017. This trend isn’t just for the street style of A-list celebs and fashion gurus to pull off, a flare jean adds a bohemian 70’s vibe to any outfit and is totally attainable by us Collegiettes! It can be styled for the workplace, a casual day on the town, or a night out. Follow along for all of our favourite tips and tricks to styling flares!

1. Shoes are key with flares! Find something subtle that doesn’t take away from the statement the flares make, and flows well with the colour of the pant.

2. A crop top is a go-to layering piece when it comes to flares! They help extenuate your waistline, which otherwise might get lost in all the fabric from the pant leg.

3. High-waisted flares are super flattering and are a contemporary version of the low-rise flares we donned religiously in our youth.

4. Wide leg trouser flares are an amazing option for a more professional vibe or even a classy night out look.

5. Cropped flares are super cute for spring, especially when paired with chic loafers or sock boots.

6. If you’re feeling super bold, try a velvet or silk flare! This is such a great statement look, especially when paired with a chic crop top and leather jacket.

Collegiettes, switch out your typical skinny jean for a flare this season! We are loving the return of this 70’s style and will most definitely be rocking this trend on campus. xo
