Kinky or Sweet: The Best of Both Worlds for Valentine’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wilfrid Laurier chapter.

Some may call February 14th a consumer holiday, but I call it the greatest excuse in the world to bring something sweet and spicy into your love kitchen (yes, your love kitchen). Of course, you should be loving and affectionate to your partner all year round, but let’s get real. The fact of the matter is that over time most of us get used to how things are, and our love lives fade into our daily routine and habit. But it doesn’t have to stay this way; I’m going give you some tips and tricks for this Valentine’s Day to bring that extra oomph you need this love-day, whether it’s kinky or sweet – I’ve got you covered.

Spice it Up

If you are looking to spice it up and get a little kinky this V-Day, here are my top suggestions for you and your partner to try both inside, and outside the bedroom.

1. Red Everything!

Scientifically speaking, people are attracted to red. So put on some sexy red lingerie, some red lipstick, and only a trench coat. Show up at their door; show them, and some great sex will naturally follow.

2. Eat Dessert in the Bedroom

Everybody knows that chocolate is a staple for Valentine’s Day, so why not bring it to your bedroom?  Put your favourite dessert in whatever naughty places your partner allows and enjoy!!

3. Rose Petal Trail to a Surprise

Okay yes, you are the surprise. But they don’t know that yet and rose petals are very intriguing! So put on something sexy and wait for them to find you; you could be waiting there to pleasure them, or handing them a bunch of flowers – either way your sex life will thank you in the end.

4. Bathe Together

Yes, you can still be dirty and get clean at the same time. Fill up your tub with some bubbles, a bath bomb, or some bath salts, and hop in! Let’s face it, you’re naked, together, in a very small space, and the water makes your skin feel great! Take this time to cuddle up with your partner between your legs (or vice versa) and kiss, cuddle, and attempt to get frisky! Remember, most vibrators are tub-friendly, so don’t be afraid to add them to the mix!

5. Couples Massage

In preparation for this option, you should go out and buy some form of massage oil. Then, tell your partner you are going to give them a full body massage in bed tonight and let the kinkiness take over. Get oiled up and massage every inch of their body – eventually this will lead to foreplay, and thus, some amazing sex may ensue.

Keep it Sweet

If you and your partner are looking for a more romantic day of love, here are some of my top classic, adoring picks to woo each other for the special occasion.

1. Candles, Candles, Candles!!

When has candlelight ever NOT been romantic?? Putting out some candles for a night at home can escalate the romance and bring a sensual, romantic vibe into your home. For this one, it’s best to stick with unscented tea lights because they are small and won’t fill the room with a billion scents. You don’t want a headache ruining your perfect evening!

2. Cook Dinner Together

Crack open a bottle of wine, turn on some music, and follow a recipe. The atmosphere of two people who are in love drinking, dancing, and cooking at the same time is a recipe for romance. Not only will you end up getting a meal out of it, but you also get the experience of doing it together and who knows, even a few steamy kitchen make-out sessions.

3. Flowers/Chocolate

Depending on what your partner is into, surprising them with these Valentine’s Day classics will never disappoint. To make the gesture slightly sweeter, attach a hand written note with a lovey message.

4. I Love You Because…

Write a series of notes to your partner, each addressing another reason why you love them. You can make some broad, very specific to your relationship, very passionate, or just plain cute. To kick the sweetness up a notch, try leaving these notes around the house for your partner to find; you can even leave them with a flower or small gift attached.

5. Surprise Them!

Who doesn’t love a good surprise? Try buying a new item of clothing for your partner. This could be a new dress, pants, or something a little more intimate like panties or boxers. Leave directions for them to put the item of clothing or outfit on and to be ready for a certain time. Surprise them by picking them up at that time and taking them to the secret destination. It could be dinner, a movie, or something more personal to your relationship; either way the element of surprise and effort you have put in is sure to make for a romantic evening.

Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be overrated this year! Get kinky, sweet, and romantic to show your partner just how much you care! Good luck, Collegiettes, and Happy Love Day!!!
