The All-In-One Product Every Collegiette Must Have

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wilfrid Laurier chapter.

As collegiettes, we know this scenario all too well: we’re at the store filling our carts with hair, nail, and skin products, cringing as dollar after dollar melts from our bank accounts and into our beauty regimes. If only there was one product to solve all our beauty issues, yet was still affordable for the average beauty-guru-on-a-budget. Well collegiettes, Her Campus is here to show you that dreams do come true and to introduce you to your new best friend: coconut oil.

Coconut oil is seriously a beauty savior. This all in one product can replace nearly every product in your cabinet and has endless benefits for your beauty routine. It is super inexpensive to purchase and, not to mention, the scent can always transport you to sipping pina coladas on the beach. Coconut oil is organic, meaning it avoids all the negative consequences of harmful chemicals on our bodies and has natural antibacterial and moisturizing properties. Celebrities like Miranda Kerr, Emma Stone, and Gwenynth Paltrow swear by it – so why wouldn’t a collegiette looking to save money at least give it a shot? Here are 7 ways to incorporate coconut oil into your beauty routine!

1. Skin Moisturizer

Coconut oil is the perfect consistency to add moisture and hydration back into your skin. Warm the product between your hands and rub into skin right after a shower. Added bonus: the lingering coconut scent smells fabulous.

2. Hair Mask

Coconut oil does miracles for dull, limp hair. The oil is a solid consistency at room temperature, so run the jar under the heated shower to soften the product. After shampooing and using a light conditioner, add a generous amount of product and let sit in your hair for 5 minutes. Rinse thoroughly.

3. Cuticle Cream

Ragged nail beds and dry hands are now a problem of the past. Simply polish coconut oil into your cuticles and let the product sink in to promote nail growth and hydrate nail beds.

4. Body Scrub

Coconut oil makes an amazing base for a DIY scrub. Simply add 1 part sugar or sea salt with coconut oil and exfoliate away! The coconut oil will be sure to help smooth, moisturize, and banish dry skin.

5. Teeth Brightener

The concept of oil pulling has been all the rage recently, and it’s time to jump on that bandwagon collegiettes. Swishing coconut oil in your mouth for 15-20 minutes a day has incredible benefits for brightening your smile, as well as an overall detox for your body. I know this may seem like quite a long time at first, but swishing while watching Netflix or studying will help you not even notice the time passing.

6. Lip Balm

Say goodbye to chapped lips with the help of coconut oil. Swipe the product across your lips throughout the day to fight against the dry, cracked lips we all face in the cooler seasons.

7. Finishing Hair Oil

Find yourself fighting frizz and dry locks this season? Not to worry – simply smooth a scoop of coconut oil on the ends of your hair to keep your style frizz-free and healthy all day long!

There you have it collegiettes, 7 ways to boost your beauty routine and save money with one product! Do yourself a favour and run to the store right now to buy a Costco-sized jar of coconut oil… trust us, you won’t regret it.
