Alas, September is back. Which means UWO students not only get to look forward to insufferably long textbook-buying lines and never-ending searches for seating in the UCC, but also to returning to the stifling hot, cramped LTC busses.
It’s inevitable; you’re poor, you have no car, and you’re lazy, so at some point you are going to have to ride the bus. It’s no secret that most Western students hate the LTC (just ask any of us, we’ll tell you), but there has to be a way to make it more enjoyable. Here are a few tips I thought of and that you can keep in mind next Tuesday when you’re on the 13 to Masonville and to cheap(er) groceries.
- Have your bus pass or change ready. No one wants to stand behind you and wait while you rifle through your belongings.
- If someone comes on that requires the priority seating, let them have the seat. Come on.
- For the love of God, please move to the back of the bus when it’s crowded and people are trying to get on. Nobody wants to be that one person that is left behind because people can’t take a single step backwards.
- Don’t have loud conversations with your friends, especially if they are several seats away and you are putting strangers in the awkward position of literally being in the middle of your conversation.
- If it’s raining- and it will usually be- don’t hold your umbrella so it drips on someone. Also don’t let it touch a seat where someone will put their dry butt, in the hopes that it will remain dry.
- Don’t take up a seat with your bag/backpack/any belongings unless NO ONE needs a seat.
- When standing, try to face the front or the back of the bus. No one wants to have a stranger’s butt/crotch at eye level.
- Don’t press the ‘stop’ button if you don’t plan on getting off at that stop.
- Thank the bus driver when you get off- it’s just classy.
Let’s face it, going back to school is terrible, but riding the bus doesn’t have to be. Follow these tips and feel free to add your own!
