Exams: The Time to Catch Up on Social Media

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Western chapter.

It’s that dreaded time of year. You have no idea what day of the week it is, much less the last day it was that you stepped into a shower. You’ve been wearing Roots sweats and your high school rugby sweater since last Thursday and you’re beginning to convince yourself that Ugg’s are actually making a comeback in the trend world as a sort of IDGAF fashion statement. Forget about makeup and hair, chances are you’ve lost all muscle memory and wouldn’t be able to navigate your beloved curling wand even if you wanted to. It’s exam season and stress levels are running high. A fully balanced meal has turned into Kraft Dinner at least once a day, but they have that made-from-cauliflower kind now anyways so it’s basically a vegetable.

With finals well underway please remember that in between blubbering, teary eyed phone calls to your mother and caffeine induced benders that this time of the year isn’t just about acing your finals and counting down the days until holiday freedom. It’s time to get your social media in gear, because after all…if you don’t publicly document absolutely everything this week; the tears, the textbooks, the sad, lonely meals created out of whatever non-perishable food items you have left in your dwindling cupboards, did it ever really happen, did you even write an exam at all?

Please remember to Instagram your study set up…you know the corner desk complete with a candle lit for ambiance and pens strategically scattered all over a notepad open to a page cluttered with notes in scrawl-y purple ink.  Also be sure to tweet about the full day you’re planning on spending at “Club Weldon,” because if you don’t your followers will undoubtedly assume you are doing something god awful like neglecting your studies to catch up on ALL of the One Tree Hill seasons instead. I also want to hear exactly how stressed you are about your three papers and your multiple choice exam coming up in the next four days *cry face emoji, cry face emoji, cry face emoji*. And please, PLEASE do not forget to Facebook status an urgent plea for a phone charger at desired library of choice…after all, without a functioning, fully charged phone how else were you planning to inform everyone when you finish and can finally stumble downtown for a post-exam-stress night on the town?  Oh, and while you’re at all of this, while you’re so efficiently juggling which filter to choose that will best compliment your frown face selfie (Caption: “stu[DYING]”) and  furiously texting your group of friends to ensure that they are up bright and early to set up camp at a table tomorrow morning (WITH A PLUG!!!)….try to fit in a little bit of studying. Remember, you’ve got exams.
