Best and Worst Dressed at the Oscars

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Western chapter.

Best Dressed: Lousie Roe

Raven: There were quite a few to choose from but I love this suit-dress trend; it’s classy and unique. Louise Roe is my pick for best dressed in her stunning pink dress.

Best Dressed: Tina Fey

 Krystyna:
Tina Fey looked stunning in her custom Carolina Herrera gown at the Oscars this past Sunday. The cut and colour compliment her in a simple, yet elegant way. The peplum was a bit off-putting on first glance, but after seeing her strut the red carpet in her full length, midnight blue gown, I fell in love with it. It’s very 1960s with a chic 2012 twist.

Best Dressed: Gwyneth Paltrow

Rida: This year’s Oscar’s Red Carpet was like being in a Christain Louboutin store, there was one beautiful dress after another! It was really difficult to choose one best dressed, even two for that matter! However, I am in love with Gwyneth Paltrow’s Tom Ford cape dress. It was different and so her! I love how structured it was and the cape definitely made the dress, this is going to be a dress people remember for a long time!

Best Dressed: Jessica Chastain

Rida: My second pick for best dressed is this gorgeous Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen dress. The opulent black and gold gown showcased the glamour of the Oscars.

Worst Dressed: Angeline Jolie

Raven: It’s not the dress itself; it was the desperation to appear sexy. We all know Angelina Jolie is a gorgeous and talented woman. Why did she spend so much effort to stick out that leg? Watching her on stage was a painful experience. Try again next year Angie!

Worst Dressed: Meryl Streep

Krystyna: Kudos to Meryl on her first Oscar win since the 1980s – she definitely deserved it – but she didn’t have to show up to the event dressed as she would have been the first time she won. This low cut, full length gold gown – made from god knows what fabric – is tacky. A woman of her caliber should have been looking regal and fashionable, not like she just arrived to the party from a discotheque.

Worst Dressed: Shailene Woodley

Rida:Surprisingly there weren’t any glaringly bad dresses at the Oscars and it was actually hard for me to pick a worst dressed! However, Shailene Woodley’s dress was not my favorite. Even though the dress itself wasn’t hideous, I felt it was a little inappropriate for her age. The dress looked like it would be perfect for someone 10 or 20 years older and she should have picked something more young and fun!

Rida is a fourth year student at the University of Western Ontario and is extremely excited about the opportunity to bring Her Campus to London! She recently changed her major from Finance to English Literature after finally realizing what she wanted to do with her life. Having spent her whole life in the Middle East (Dubai and Saudi Arabia) Rida had no choice but to grow up a shopaholic! Having shifted from the desert to the great ice box that is Canada, she still finds it difficult to adjust to the freezing weather. In her spare time, Rida likes reading, watching way too many shows, stuffed crust pizza and,of course, shopping! Her aspirations are to one day live in Paris and be a writer for Vogue.
