How to Make the Most of Your Long Summer Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Waterloo chapter.

Spring is in the air and summer is around the corner. What are your plans for the summer? How about traveling? Or doing something completely crazy and out of character? Here are 8 ideas that can make your summer worthwhile.

1. Read a book

Without any doubts, reading books is the best way to gain knowledge and is a great form of entertainment. Why not getting out of your comfort zone and reading a new book, a book on a topic or in a genre that you have never tried before?

2. Volunteering

Volunteering has helped me to build character, gain more experience, and discover my inner self- confidence. It is an amazing way to give back to the community.

3. Try an extreme sport

You only live once, so why not give it a try? It could be one of the most memorable moments of your life.

4. Go to the beach

Summer is finally here and I couldn’t be more excited for it. Let’s go to the beach to get some vitamin sea!

5. Learn a musical instrument

It’s never too late to start learning a musical instrument, whether it’s piano, guitar, or violin. Learning a musical instrument is not something that can give you immediate results. It’ll take a lot of time and effort, but it is worth it. Trust me, practice makes perfect.

6. Create your signature dish

No one can be disinterested when it comes to food. Show some love and amaze your loved ones with a meal of your own recipes.

7. Meet up with your old friends

Even though our roads diverge as time progresses, you can still reunite, reconnect, and continue to build the friendship.

8. Tell your family that you love them

(Source)

I love my family unconditionally and I bet you all do. They are my greatest support and motivation. With our tight and busy university schedules, it might be too difficult to spend time with your family. So, summer is the perfect occasion. Give them warm big hugs, a billion kisses, and don’t forget to tell them how important they are to you.

Summer is not just about sleeping, eating all day long, or binge-watching movie series. Get your tired ass out of bed, start doing something new, and make your summer worthwhile!
