Someone buy me this, my birthday is next week!By March 8, 2011 - 10:18pm Alright, the bidding on this has ended, so you can't actually buy it. And my birthday's in September. And if you're like me, you're in no place to spend $138 on a sweater. But DANG, this vintage UW lettermans sweater is something I wouldn't mind having in my closet. It probably smells like a basement but I'd be cozy 4 liiiiiiiife! & supporting UW circa 1930-something. Sigh, the days when university apparel was made in the US... Anyways, take a look at this beauty: READ MORE |

Alumni We Love: Bonnie DunbarBy March 4, 2011 - 8:24pm Let's hear it for women in science and technology! Bonnie Dunbar rules. She was the alumna of the year in 2004, and graduated from the University of Washington in '71 and '75 for ceramic engineering. She's also got some impressive stuff on her resume. When she was an undergrad at UW, she helped to develop ceramic tiles used so that ships could re-enter the atmosphere. Oh, you know, no big deal. In 1978, she began her career at NASA, and in 1981, she became a NASA astronaut. Since then, she has held several honorable and high positions in the field, and even spent time in Russia training cosmonauts and flying to the Russian Space Station. Bonnie Dunbar is super inspirational, and certainly makes UW proud. Bonnie, HC Washington loves... |

Meet Me at the Center of the Earth (or Downtown Seattle)By March 4, 2011 - 12:28am Alright, so I have to admit that I was a little bummed that this exhibit was not by the Nick Cave that comes to mind when I hear the name "Nick Cave". It's a different artist, but... MAN, THIS LOOKS AWESOME. Coming March 10th to the Seattle Art Museum is the exhibit Meet Me At the Center of the Earth, where artist Nick Cave will showcase his "soundsuits". I'd explain them right now, but I don't think I would do them justice. Here is a visual, which does a much better job than I would do: READ MORE |
Lecture: The Politics of James BondBy March 4, 2011 - 12:07am A FREE lecture, with speaker Jeremy Black, a professor of history at the University of Exeter. Held in Gowen 201 at UW Seattle. "Sent onto the page in 1953, James Bond has since registered political changes in the narrower politics of state interest and international politics, and in the wider politics of class, gender, race and sexuality. Jeremy Black uses the iconic secret service adventure hero to consider these changes and to throw light on the politics of culture." READ MORE |
