8 Compliments to Give Girls More Often (Whether You’re a Guy or a Girl)

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wash U chapter.

1. Have you been working out? You look toned… If you notice she has beautifully toned biceps or legs, let her know! This is more genuine than the classic “Have you lost weight?” line all females are accustomed to. Of course, asking a woman if she has dropped a few pounds never hurts!

2. That color looks amazing on you!
Rather than just telling her she looks hot in that top, be specific! Of course, this compliment does not apply to someone wearing a neutral tone, but telling a girl she looks great in a color other than black is always a great confidence booster.

3. You’re so much fun to be around. Made a new friend? Let her know how much you enjoy spending time with her. Although compliments regarding physical appearance are always nice, a nice comment about someone’s personality is heartfelt and always appreciated.

4. You should wear your hair like that more often! It can be tough for girls to find ways to wear their hair that is flattering and easy. If you notice that her messy bun shows off her bone structure, point it out! Next time she throws her hair up, she may feel more confident.

5. I need your advice. Going to a girl for advice is a sign of trust and admiration. This may not seem like a conventional compliment, and that’s because it’s not. Regardless, showing that you confide in her is quite flattering.

6. Can I borrow that sometime? Us girls often put a lot of thought into our ensemble, and when someone likes what we’ve put together, we want to know! Rather than just admiring a top or a cute necklace, asking to borrow a piece is a telltale sign that the compliment is for real (even if they don’t let you borrow it…)

7. I need to be more like you. If she’s extremely disciplined, a hard-worker, or maybe you just admire her as a whole, acknowledging that she has qualities that you would love to acquire is a nice way of giving her some confidence.

8. You’re the best! Short and sweet. Both women and men love hearing this one.
