With finals just around the corner, it can be refreshing to switch it up a little and try out some new study spots. Maybe the place you frequent just isn’t getting the job done anymore, or maybe you’ve told a few too many people where you like to work and now you can’t study in solitude. No matter the problem, here are some potential solutions to your productivity woes.

1. The East Asian Library

Located on the second floor of January Hall, this library is quiet but not too quiet. It smells like books and tea which some find less pleasant than others but it definitely enhances the ambience. The library itself isn’t very big so there’s an even smaller chance you’ll run into anybody. A great place to just get down to business.

2. The Basement of Olin Library

Everyone knows Olin is a great place to get stuff done. The top two floors are both very quiet and certified good study spots. However, sometimes the paranoia of seeing people you know can get the best of you and really take you away from your work. You can easily eliminate this issue by packing up and heading down into the depths of Olin, the basement. Seated in cubicles, you won’t see a soul. It’s so quiet you’ll be too embarrassed to make a noise. It’s the place to be.

3. The Law Library

Probably the most instagrammed library on campus, this library is known for it’s large glass windows which let in natural light in beautiful ways. This is also the quietest library on campus so don’t go there if you’re that person who needs to loudly unwrap granola bars every 30-40 minutes while studying. The law students can be pretty territorial at times so be respectful of them but also don’t let them push you around!

4. The Butterfly Garden

This is really only a good spot if you can handle studying outdoors. The Butterfly Garden is one of those places where the second you sit down you’ll think, “they’ll never find me here.” Bring a pair of headphones and some Zyrtec if you typically suffer from seasonal allergies. It’s a great spot to catch up on some reading or ponder your own existence to the tune of smooth jazz.

5. Basements, generally.

Go to a building (like really, any building) and just check out the basement. Chances are, no one is going to be there. It’ll be quiet and your phone won’t work super well so that’s one fewer distraction! No one will find you there. You are completely anonymous in a basement. There’s nothing more valuable than your anonymity when studying. Find a basement and find your focus.
