Sophomore Strugs: 8 Reasons Why I’m Thankful to be Back on Campus

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wake Forest chapter.

Throughout the past year at Wake, strangers became best friends, confusing hallway and endless brick buildings turned into daily routine, and cramped dorms transformed into home. While last year’s arrival was full of nerves and uncertainty, this year’s beginning has been filled with long-anticipated reunions and the return of familiarity. Entering into my second year, I’ve realized all the little things that I missed about Wake Forest and the new excitement sophomore year is sure to bring:

1. The new and improved Pit- The Pit has really stepped up its game this year with an entirely redesigned omelet station, remodeled Southern kitchen, the addition of a Greek yogurt creation station, and a brand new pasta bar.

2. Living next door to friends again- Finally, your friends from all over the country are conveniently living close to you again. You can walk over to their rooms to hang out, work on homework, and borrow clothes during virtually any time of the day.

3. Not being a freshman- Coming in as a sophomore, you already know your way around campus and can walk around with more confidence knowing you’re not a confused and clueless freshman anymore.

4. The hype around tailgates and football games- Fall means football in the South and tailgating for games is one of the most fun and unifying ways our campus comes together.

5. Seeing the Demon-Deacon roaming around campus at random events- Our beloved mascot is always visible the first couple weeks of school as he greets the new students during orientation and makes grand appearances at sports games.

6. Getting back into routine- Summer was relaxing and all, but I’ve found that getting up at a reasonable hour and organizing school and social obligations makes me feel like I’m finally a productive person again.

7. The anticipation of Fall in the Forest- Seeing the trees around campus change into brilliant colors of orange and red is definitely one of the best parts about being at Wake Forest in the Fall.

8. Revival of a college social life- Returning home after your first year at college you realize how much more fun college is than high school, so returning to the fun and dynamic social scene at Wake is one of the best parts about starting the school year again.
