Freshman Problems: A Timeline of Sorority Bid Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wake Forest chapter.

Rush is a week full of emotions, surprises, excitement, and nervous anticipation. However, the roller coaster of emotions is all worth it for one very special day: Bid Day! Bid Day is the equivalent of a birthday, Christmas, and New Year’s all wrapped up in one monumental day.

First, everyone gathers around in one giant auditorium while all the Gamma Rho Chi’s gather up their groups’ bid cards. The look of the fresh, white envelopes is both alluring and nerve-wrecking.

Then, the glorious bid cards are distributed, but you have to keep them on your forehead until the head GRC allows everyone to open their cards all at once.

Once you rip open your bid card, everyone runs outside in mass chaos to meet their new sorority sisters, who are all waiting with open arms and wide smiles to greet the new members. As you approach the lounge, the screams and chanting grow louder until finally you realize you’ve made it to your new home.

Finally, the bid day activities start! The rest of the day proceeds in a blur of photo-taking, hugging, singing, bonding, and maybe even a few tears. The sorority members welcome you with a specially designed bid day t-shirt and other cool presents.

At Wake Forest, every sorority gets the privilege of taking pictures in front of the beautiful Wait Chapel. This is a great place to familiarize yourself with your new pledge class and show off your sorority letters.

Bid Night is filled with bonding activities, such as bowling, trampolining, movie-watching, crafting, or other creative activities.

At the end of the exhausting day, you come home completely beat from all the excitement. At this point, you’ve probably lost your voice from all the singing and screaming.

Bid day is one of the most unique and amazing experiences any new sorority member will ever have. It is day filled with friendship building and memory making.
