Freshman Problems: 19 Signs You Are Part of Wake Forest’s Class of 2019

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wake Forest chapter.

Students at Wake come from all different parts of the U.S. and even around the world; however there are still some universal signs that distinguish us freshman rookies from the rest of the Wake veterans. Here are a few tell-tale signs that you’re a member of the class of 2019 at Wake Forest:

1. You get excited at any opportunity to go off campus, or really anywhere outside of the .25 mile radius that is the “freshman bubble.” And mostly excited for real food.

2. You haven’t really memorized Wake’s fight song yet, so whenever it comes on at a sports game you just hum and clap along and pretend like you know what you’re doing.

3. You’ve been a victim of the freshman plague.

4. You’ve gone out one night and woken up the next morning with a ton of new contacts in your phone.

5. You’ve started or been a part of a study group that gets absolutely nothing accomplished (but you love it anyways). Might as well be social!

6. You fear someone asking you for directions because the only buildings you’re roughly familiar with are your dorm, Benson, and Renoylda Hall.

7. You’ve already developed a strong hatred for UNC and Duke

8. You’ve had some awkward interactions with people you met during orientation week and see around campus all the time because you still can’t seem to remember their names. Again – too many names to remember! Too many hands have been shaken. Maybe that’s how the Freshman Plague spreads…

9. You attended the activities fair and felt a little overwhelmed, but in the end you joined some great clubs and met a broad range of new people with similar interests to your own.

10.  You take it very personally when others try to diss your dorm or claim that their dorm is superior to your own (because everyone knows that YOUR dorm is obvi the best one).

11.  You’ve met some amazing and interesting people on your hall.

12.  You’ve made fun of some of the high schoolers you’ve seen on tours around campus, even though that was you only a couple months ago.

13.  You get way too excited when you meet someone from your hometown, or just as excited when you meet someone from the same region.

14.  You’ve complained about the Pit at least a few times.

15.  You still get confused when walking into the ZSR library and fear getting lost in those innumerable rows of books.

16.  You’ve made the trek to the North Campus dining hall to enjoy a “nice” dinner with your friends.

17.  You’ve meet some amazing upperclassman that have assured you that not all upperclassmen are as scary and intimidating as they seem.

18.  You’ve been assigned your first paper or exam and realized that “Work Forest” is a very real (and not just a punny) nickname.

19.  You’ve walked around campus and thought about how excited you are for whatever lies ahead in these next four years.
