Cookin’ Up Ideas with SG Candidate Thomas Martino

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wake Forest chapter.
Collegiettes, Wake Forest University 2015-2016 Student Government elections are coming up fast!

We had the unique opportunity to speak with sophomore, Thomas Martino, who is running for Speaker of the House. While Her Campus remains unbiased during this time, we couldn’t resist spreading the word about Martino, his love of cooking (yep!) and his hopes for the future of Wake Forest; that’s why he’s this week’s #CampusCelebrity.

Martino is originally from New Jersey, which helps explain his love of Italian cuisine. When he misses his hometown favorites, Martino is happy to whip up a delicious pasta dish for himself…or his girlfriend! She attends Lehigh University in Pennsyvlvania.

Martino lives life by the quote, In the end, it is not the years in your life that count. It is the life in your years,” and that’s the approach that he has taken at Wake Forest. He’s super involved: a member of Alpha Sigma Phi, a member of Alpha Kappa Psi (the business fraternity), a Co-Chair of the Student Government Academic Committee and Head Coach of the Girls Club Basketball Team.

Martino is passionate about student government, which is why he is running for Speaker of the House. If elected, he plans to approach problems on campus in a realistic, visible and effective manner. Some of these include: parking and transportation, diversity and inclusion and sexual assault programming.

Martino also wants Wake Forest (not just Winston-Salem) to have its very own Snapchat filter. “I have done research online and spoken with Snapchat representatives about getting our own Wait Chapel or Demon Deacon graphic,” he says. Go Deacs!
