Her Campus: How long have you been involved in Student Union, and what have been your roles been thus far?
Allegra: I joined Student Union during the second week of my freshman year as a member of the Celebrations and Special Events committee. As a committee member, I held various leadership roles and was able to get a closer look at what it’s really like to plan an event. I loved it so much that during my sophomore year, I served on the Board of Directors as the first-ever Director of Deacon Pride, and this year, I am serving on the Executive Board as Vice President of Marketing and Communications.
HC: What is your current position? What is your favorite part about this position?
My current position is Vice President of Marketing and Communications. My work in Student Union has allowed me to grow by contributing my passion for programming and student engagement to the Wake Forest community. As VP Marketing, I am excited to introduce new ways to promote Student Union’s events for students to connect with each other on campus. I love meeting people and getting to know them, and one of my favorite things about Student Union has been interacting with fellow students. Whether it is through creatively marketing our events to the whole campus and finding ways to better cater to our student body’s needs and interests, or simply getting to know students and other members on a more personal level, I am very excited to continue to encourage students at Wake to challenge themselves and look for opportunities to get more involved on campus. I love taking part in giving every Demon Deacon the best Wake Forest experience possible; engaging with my peers through Student Union and similar activities has allowed me to give back to Wake Forest and its community by making everyone on campus feel at home.
HC: How can people get involved on your team in SU, or in SU in general?
Allegra: Sign up for our newsletter by emailing me (brocaa15@wfu.edu) to find out what we’re planning, and come to our committee meetings! Meeting times are posted on our Facebook (@wfusu) as well as on our marketing board on the 3rd floor of Benson (next to the Copy Center).
HC: What SU event are you most looking forward to this year?
Allegra: I’m most looking forward to Birthday Bash this year! This is an event that I started last year as Director of Deacon Pride, and is one that is near and dear to my heart. I hope that it will continue to grow and become a tradition at Wake Forest. The event gives everyone on campus the opportunity to come together and celebrate WFU’s birthday every year, and I am so excited to see how it turns out this year.
HC: Is there anything else that you would like to share about yourself, your position in SU or SU in general?
Allegra: Student Union is definitely one of the most amazing organizations to get involved with on campus. Whether you’re shy or outgoing, or have event-planning experience or not, Student Union has a place for you and can really help you grow as a person and as a mentor. You get to meet so many wonderful people through this organization, and it allows you to participate in creating some of Wake Forest’s biggest events. SU is my favorite way to show my school spirit!
