5 Tips on Getting Through Finals

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wake Forest chapter.

It’s everyone’s favorite time of the year: finals. If you’re like me, you are spending hours upon hours in the library, cramming crazy amounts of information into your brain and probably not the happiest of campers. Finals week can be pretty brutal. Here are five quick tips to getting through it:

1. Take Care of Yourself

It is so tempting to stress-eat candy and treat yourself to fast food during finals, but ultimately it is going to make you feel worse! It will spike your blood sugar and leave you feeling tired and gross. Eat healthy and drink lots of water. This will help you stay awake and focused so you can crush exams. Also, some light exercise can do wonders for your mental sanity.

2. Get Perspective

Exams and final papers are important, but they aren’t everything. Don’t get caught up in the insane hype of exam week. Yes, obviously study for your exams and work hard, but they don’t have to rule your life and stress you out to the max! Realize that that they don’t define you, and your grade doesn’t reflect your worth.

3. Be Confident

When you walk in to take your exam, be confident! Feel proud of the work you have accomplished and be sure of your abilities. You’ve prepared and worked hard all semester, so believe in yourself. The more positively you see yourself, the better you’ll do.

4. Keep Your Space Clean

This can be really hard when you feel overwhelmed and exhausted by everything you have to do. But quickly tidying up your room at the end of the day can really take the edge off. I hate coming back from a stressful day and seeing that my room is a mess— it actually makes me more stressed out! Take a few extra minutes to clear off your desk and put away your clothes. I promise it will make you feel much better!

5. Plan Your Studying

Before hitting the library, make a plan for how you are going to study. I recommend doing 50 minutes of studying with a 10-minute break. That way you can still get a lot of studying done while not getting burnt out. Making a list of the topics or concepts you need to study is also a good idea. That way you know you won’t forget anything and will feel accomplished when you can start checking them off.

Exams are tough, but they don’t have to break you. This week, try remembering these five things and watch your exam week drastically improve!
