What to Wear: Hokie Wardrobe Basics

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Virginia Tech chapter.

It’s that time of the year again! School is back in session and the best part about that means back-to-school shopping! By this time you’re probably mentally exhausted from shopping for your college wardrobe because it is so much more lengthy than shopping for your clothes in high school. To make it less stressful, we’ve put a couple outfits together for a couple different occasions that you can use as a guide to look great all the time!

Going to class

When your priority is to be comfortable, there is nothing wrong with throwing on leggings and a t-shirt after a long night of studying. We recommend a racerback tank in a pop of teal or keeping it cool in grey. Add in additional details like mesh panels or lace detailing along the calf to upgrade the typical pair of leggings.

When you want to be flirty cute, throw on a skirt and a choker to make everyone jealous that you weren’t able to take more than 15 minutes to get ready this morning. A classic baseball tee with a button front skirt will be key players in this look. Even better, 90s elements like black velvet chokers are trending.

When you want to look cute but also be comfortable, comfy shorts and a loose, stylish t-shirt is the way to go when it’s hot out but you still want to look cute. Pair it with some fun jewels, your favorite pair of sunglasses and sandals to complete the look. We recommend lace gladiators, bonus for pom pom detailing.

Going out with your friends

When you’re in the mood to impress that special someone; choose black, because we all know black is the best color out there to do so. It’s slimming and fierce. How does it get any better?

When you’re in the mood to go all out but you want a more lighthearted look, then a cute suede fringe or jean skirt matched with an off the shoulder shirt will give you the ‘boho’ look we all have a soft spot for. It’s all about these subtle variations in proportion.

Those “cute and casual” nights where you might just be hanging with a close group of friends but you still want to leave an impression. Wearing a fun graphic t-shirt with distressed jeans or jean shorts will do that for you. High-waisted? Sign us up. Strappy tanks? We are all for it.

GAME DAY!

It’s game day and you’re in the mood to be a girly girl. Well don’t worry because tons of girls will be feeling the same exact way! Game day is already thrilling enough if you add the perfect outfit nothing can stop you. You can pull together a fun orange skirt with a white slouchy shirt and your favorite maroon and orange accessories. Let’s be honest; it’s game day. You can wear anything that’s maroon or orange and look fabulous.

This is for all the fans out there that know the entire roster by heart. Sport your jersey! Support your team as loudly as your clothes let you! Pair it with a pair of cowgirl boots or Converse to make it a comfortable day of tailgating and cheering.

It’s also worth mentioning that you can kick up your Hokie pride another notch, thanks to Uscape Apparel. What has become home for so many students is fostered by the rich traditions we celebrate. Recently ranked #1 for Quality of Life by The Princeton Review, it’s no shock that students and faculty jump at the chance to further integrate these traditions into everyday wardrobe decisions. Clothing is a vehicle for self-expression, and as such: wearing our iconic campus on a t-shirt is a conscious choice of pride. Taken with the concept of a “cityscape,” Uscape offers universities a tangible display of these traditions and campus pride!

Follow Uscape Apparel on Instagram, and be sure to participate with us on #CollegeColors day! (Friday, Sept. 2nd) as we also celebrate Gobblerfest! We hope to see you at our booth, so please stop by between 4 – 8 pm on the Drillfield.
