A Week in the Life of a Virginia Tech Student

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Virginia Tech chapter.

Every college student has the same weekly goal: make it to Friday. At Virginia Tech, we get the privilege of going through weeks that contain all four seasons, waiting 45 minutes in the Qdoba line and always forgetting the BT schedule. If you’re a Hokie, I’m sure you’ve gone through at least a few of these weekly struggles.

Monday

So, the week is just starting and you realize that staying up all night in the library last night wasn’t the best plan. You decided to set an alarm fifteen minutes earlier than usual so that you can grab Dunkin’ on your way to class, buuut you end up hitting snooze about five times until you finally roll out of bed. Guess the promise to not wear sweats to class every day this week is already broken, huh?

Tuesday

You wake up expecting it to be 65 degrees and sunny like it was yesterday, but instead it’s 34 degrees with a chance of snow and you’re practically crying as you walk across the drillfield. Tuesday classes may only actually be 20 minutes longer than Monday classes, but it truly feels like an eternity before you finally get to leave and grab lunch. Where do you go? Hokie Grill of course, because you just remembered it’s Tuesday and Chick-fil-a was open yesterday, but you didn’t take advantage.

Wednesday

So, it’s mid-week and you decide it’s time to venture to Turner for lunch, and instantly regret it as there are people EVERYWHERE and you end up waiting a half hour for a smoothie. Afterwards, you lure yourself into a false sense that the worst of your week is over. Until you remember that you have a lab report due, two exams and a quiz the next day. Oh, and you thought it was Chicken Parm Day, but it’s actually on Friday this week.

Thursday

It’s Friday part one, right? It’s also the day you begin to seriously regret thinking that a MWF class a good idea as all of your friends start making plans for the night. To make yourself feel better as you listen to people screeching in the Owens Lot, you stay up until 2 AM binge watching Netflix.

Friday

The last and most bittersweet walk to class of the week. Sure, you’re excited that it’s finally almost the weekend, but you’re exhausted from staying up for no reason the night before. You practically sprint back to your dorm after class. You feel free, until you remember that you have a math empo quiz due at 2 PM that you completely forgot about.

Saturday

You wake up exhausted and hungover, craving only one thing in world – coffee. You pull yourself out of bed and shower before trekking to Dunkin’ just to realize that it’s closed. Defeated, you return to your dorm and put off the pile of work you have by taking a nap until plans are made for the night.

Sunday

The light shining in through your window is blinding and you cringe at your phone when you realize it’s already 1 PM… but, there’s still time for West End brunch! After waiting forever in the pancake line, you spend the remainder of your day doing the mountain of homework you managed to put off all weekend. You finally get to crawl into bed feeling good now that you’ve finished your work…until you realize tomorrow is Monday.
