For most college students the majority of Saturday mornings are spent sleeping off crazy Friday nights or re-energizing after a long stressful week of classes. But while you’re counting sheep, farmers and merchants are plucking the freshest tomatoes from the vines and the most fragrant bundles of basil for the Farmers Market in Downtown Blacksburg.
The Blacksburg Farmers Market has been a fixture of the community for nearly 30 years, supplying fresh produce, hand-crafted goods, farm-fresh products and flowers. Young and old come to the market located at the intersection of Draper Road and East Roanoke Street (just a short walk from campus) for not only the freshest products but to also support local merchants.
Locals can be found mingling under the shaded pavilion celebrating the taste of summer and acoustic music. The atmosphere is both refreshing and lively and needs to be on every Hokie’s “need-to-do” list.
The market is open year-round and operates from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays and 2 p.m. To 7 p.m. on Wednesdays.
