Actress, singer, and model Zendaya has become known as someone who supports female empowerment and a positive body image.
The November 2015 issue of Modeliste magazine features Zendaya on the cover with the title, Red Hot Zendaya: Fashion’s New Icon. This should be an exciting moment in the life of this 19 year old star. For the cover story, she got to partake in a photoshoot in Puerto Vallarta.
However, Zendaya recently shared one of the photos from her shoot, exposing the magazine for distorting a perfectly good picture.
Her post reads:
“Had a new shoot come out today and was shocked when I found my 19 year old hips and torso quite manipulated. These are the things that make women self conscious, that create the unrealistic ideals of beauty that we have. Anyone who knows who I am knows I stand for honest and pure self love. So I took it upon myself to release the real pic (right side) and I love it! Thank you @modelistemagazine for pulling down the images and fixing this retouch issue.”
Thousands of messages flowed in from fans afterwards, stating “This is why we love you” and “The real picture was far more beautiful.”
Zendaya is truly an inspiration for all women. While many celebrities are embarassed when their un-touched photos leak, Zendaya was brave enough to call out the magazine and aknowledge that these false images are the reason many women are not comfortable in their own skin.
