The Weekly Recap: News You May Have Missed

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Villanova chapter.

Potter, Putin, Prince William, and everything in between. Here’s the news you may have missed for this week.

  • JK Rowling is writing a Potter-themed screenplay in conjunction with Warner Bros. based on her Hogwarts textbook, “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.” It will follow the travels and adventures of Newt Scamander, the textbook’s fictional author, and is reportedly the first in a series of films set 70 years prior to the Potter stories. Rowling has called it an “extension of the wizarding world” as opposed to a prequel or sequel. It sparked reactions like this:
  • The Jersey Shore faced destructive fires that ripped through Seaside, destroying “80 percent of the boardwalk” in the process, causing residents to harken back to the Sandy damage.
  • If you haven’t seen Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” video yet, here it is. You’re welcome/I’m sorry?
BONUS: “Wrecking Ball” starring Nicolas Cage
  • The four men involved in the Delhi gang rape and brutal muder of a student were sentenced to death.
  • On Tuesday, Obama addressed the nation with the intention of asking for a military strike in Syria. However, prior to his speech, Syria agreed to hand over their chemical weapons to Russia and join the Chemical Weapons Convention. Obama then asked Congress to postpone the vote in light of the “diplomatic path” but still stands behind military action if the Assad regime doesn’t cease violating international law.
  • Prince William has announced that he will leave his military position as a helicopter search-and-rescue pilot to devote more time to charities and focus on his royal duties.

It’s been a heavy week for news. Therefore, I present to you a crowd surfing pug as a chaser:
