5 Reasons Your Striped Shirtdress Is A Staple

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Villanova chapter.

Over the past year and a half I’ve come to the realization that there is nothing I love more than a great shirtdress. By far, my favorite thing in my closet is my Brandy Melville striped shirtdress that I picked up impulsively last July on Newbury Street in Boston, MA. I never looked back and honestly it’s becoming a problem because I wear it way too often. Here are my 5 reasons why a striped shirtdress is essential to your closet.

5. Effortlessness Give me one better feeling than taking 2 seconds to throw on and outfit and immediately looking put-together and pretty. I’ll wait.

4. You can wear it in (almost) any weather Autumn breeze? Throw on a jean jacket! Rainy morning? You’ll still look cute with a raincoat and rainboots on. Sunny and warm? Leave your dress how it is, and pair with your favorite sunglasses! I have yet to find a way to wear one of these during the wintertime, but you can go one season without it, right?

3. Sneakers! If I can help it, sneakers are always my first choice for shoes. Flip flops have no support, sandals give me blisters easily, and I save my heels for more special occasions than walking to a 9AM class. So you can imagine that one of my top incentives for throwing on a shirtdress in the morning is that I know it will go with sneakers. My favorite pairing include my beat-up white Converse, keeping it classic and casual.

2. Dress it up or dress it down Just as it’s easy to throw it on without any effort, the right jewelry, shoes, and hairstyle can really dress it up into a cute date night outfit, especially in the summer.

1. Comfort and style My Brandy Melville shirtdress is probably one of the comfiest articles of clothing I own, and it looks great, too. I own another one from Forever 21 that’s fashion-forward with a lace-up aspect to the front of it, but again, is also super comfortable. As someone who consistently dresses for comfort, there’s really nothing that can compare to the overlap of being comfy and looking good at the same time.

Side note: I have just been informed that my roommate does not own a striped shirtdress, and I have given her the rundown of why that is oh-so-wrong. She’s fixing up her wardrobe soon with one of these great investments! Share with someone who should hop on the striped shirtdress train!!
