Thoughts When You See a Dog on Campus

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at VCU chapter.

Picture this. You’re walking your usual route through campus to get to your destination, and you stumble across a wonderful sight — something you don’t normally see on a regular basis…

A DOG!

Now before you go into I-have-to-pet-it mode, here are a few things that might be running through your head:

1. Are my eyes deceiving me?

You may ask yourself this: Am I indeed witnessing a four-legged angel? Or is my pet-obsessed mind playing tricks on me? Once you decipher if it is indeed, a dog, you proceed to the next step:

2. MOVE QUICKLY!

At this point, you’re not sure of how much time you have before the dog’s owner tugs them along. So, it’s time to act fast. Your next thought:

3. I must pet it!

As all dog lovers know, this is a VITAL step in this process. At this moment, you may begin to feel your heart warm up, just a bit. It also may be hard for you to leave the dog alone, even after it’s owner subtly tries to tug their pet along without you.

4. Do I really have to let this dog go or can I steal it?

At this stage, you realize that you in fact, cannot steal this beautiful angel and keep it in your arms forever. You must continue on your journey to wherever you were going, all while thinking about the cutest pupper you’ve seen in a while.

It’s okay, there will be many more dogs around!

When not writing articles for Her Campus at VCU, you can usually find them endlessly browsing Netflix or checking social media, mostly Instagram and Twitter. They try to be as open-minded as possible, and don't mind having conversations with others about social issues. After college, they dream of being an art director for films.
