There’s absolutely nothing wrong with being sober, other than the fear of feeling humiliated if anyone finds out that you might not really drink in college. I am here to tell you that it’s okay. We all have friends that don’t drink or don’t get totally drunk on the weekends. The sober friend is still a great friend to have along for a night out.

1. They’re the designated navigator. This is the person who can get you to where you want to go next. We all know parties get busted or just start to get lame after a while. While you plan your next move, your sober friend is the friend you depend on. Seeing how they’ve only had maybe two or three shots in a night, they’re your best bet to finding your next location safely.

2. They save you money on alcohol. Only having a drink before they decide they’re finished has major financial benefits for both of your wallets. It takes the sober friend at least two weekends to get through one bottle and the alcohol they have left is yours for the taking. Then you finally have money that can be used towards a greater good maybe a new outfit, concert ticket or your flight ticket for spring break.

3. They have better photo-taking hands. If you want a photo that isn’t blurry like your night, ask your sober friend to take it. They are more likely to have sturdier hands than anyone else in the group, and plus your phone is just safer that way.

4. They’re the communicator. This friend is your go-to girl when you need to pass any type of security or law enforcement. Let’s be real, they’re the one that can make more coherent sentences to call Uber with.

5. They’ll be there to nurse your hangover in the morning. There’s nothing worse after a night of partying than to wake up to an awful hangover and having a laundry list of work to get done. Your sober friends are there to bring you water and get you out of bed.

So let your sober flag fly, because your liver will be thanking you later.
