Name: Kyana Clemons
Major: Public Relations, General Business minor
Hometown: Virginia Beach, VA
When did you begin pursuing public relations? How did you find your niche?
I began pursuing PR after I was rejected from the fashion merchandising program here at VCU. I knew I wanted to work in fashion, but I also wanted something a little more than fashion merchandising. Getting rejected from the program was a blessing because I found PR and I love it.
How would you describe your sense of style?
I like cute, comfy and affordable. I love rocking something easy and making it look like I put a ton of effort into it. I would say my overall style is classy, yet urban.
Who or what inspires your style?
I’m inspired by a lot of different things. I like to mix street style and professional wear pretty often. I LOVE how effortless Beyoncé is with her style, so I try to embody that as often as I can.
What fashion advice would you give other students looking to improve their style on a budget?
GO THRIFTING! Don’t be afraid to dig around a Goodwill, CHKD or a local boutique. Fashion changes so often, it’s crazy to spend a lot of money on something simple like a black crop top. Spend three bucks and save the rest to invest in an awesome bag or stellar shoes.
How are you involved on campus?
I am currently the President of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) here at VCU. It’s been a great experience thus far and is definitely preparing me for future leadership roles.
What do you do for fun?
When I’m not at work, school or running to a meeting, I genuinely enjoy vegging out in front of the TV or hanging out with friends. Nothing cures a bad day like wine and laughter.
