How to Get the Most Out of Your Shower

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at VCU chapter.

As a Pisces, I naturally like swimming. Maybe horoscopes and sports don’t necessarily correlate, but I certainly do enjoy the pleasures of the beach and everything that comes with it. However, if you’re in college, you know that taking a vacation mid-semester is almost always impossible. So what exactly is the next best thing? Well, maybe not the next best thing, but something close to it? That’s right, a nice hot shower. Showers have the ability to soothe the soul, promote creative thinking, de-stress and the obvious: keep you clean. Being able to create the most splendid shower experience is key to happy living.

The first thing you have to remember is that what products you choose matters. Choosing the right type of shampoo, conditioner and body wash will make a big difference in the quality of your shower session. Consider your hair type before purchasing any type of hair products and make sure you choose a scent you won’t get tired of. There’s a ton of different brands in the shower department, so a little research goes a long way.

Besides smelling scrumptious, you can’t forget the music. Listening to music while showering is probably one of the easiest ways to get yourself in a better mood. Be sure to set up a nice speaker and blast your favorite songs; you’ll feel just like Shakira dancing in the rain in some music video. If you’re really feeling the vibe, dim the lighting and light up a few candles to perfect your “me time.” Just don’t dance too hard to the music because you might fall, not that I would know.

Of course, showers are a great place to just take a few moments and appreciate the little things in life. Sometimes we forget to think in silence about what we usually take for granted — whether that be family members, friends or just waking up in the morning. Taking a couple of minutes in the shower to be grateful for what you have will bring you a little more joy throughout your day.

Lastly, appreciate that fabulous body of yours. Regardless of body type, you’re a total babe and a little body positivity never hurt anybody. Showers aren’t the only time you can admire your beautiful self, but it’s definitely a great start!Photo credits: Cover, 1, 23
