Cute Spring Gifts for Random Acts of Kindness

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at VCU chapter.

Spring is such a happy season with everything coming back to life and people crawling out of their rooms like it’s the first time they’ve seen sunlight since the fall. So what better way to get in the spring spirit than to try and make people smile by making small, fun DIYs for your friends?

All these DIYs, depending on how many/large you make it, can take from 5 minutes to an hour, so if you’re looking for a cute gift or something fun to do, grab a friend or Netflix and let’s get started!

1. Jolly Rancher Flowers

One of my absolute favorite things to make are jolly rancher flowers. These are very simple to make and take about a minute to make per flower. I usually give them individually wrapped or put them into a bouquet to give to someone! All you need is some jolly ranchers, a stick and something to wrap it in afterwards. You will also need to boil water for about a minute, stick three jolly ranchers of the same color (petals) and one green candy (the leaf). Once the water is boiled to get them soft, use a utensil to get them out to avoid burning yourself. Then, simply wrap them around the stick! For more instructions, you can look on Facebook, YouTube or Pinterest. I just find that these flowers are a simple, but super cute gift for the spring time.

2. Macaramé Plant Hangers

For all the plant lovers, macramé plant hangers are the perfect gift to give someone to start the spring off right! All you need is some rope/cord/heavy yarn and a little bit of patience. There are a lot of different knots and designs you can use when making this, so depending on what you want the final product to look like, there are plenty of tutorials on how to do it. I find that this project is very simple, but since it is handmade, it makes a perfect gift.

3. Cupcake Bouquet

Another flower-themed DIY is the cupcake bouquet. This is usually for someone you know more personally and need a gift that they can 1) eat and 2) keep part of forever. All you need is to bake some cupcakes, stick them on a Styrofoam ball using toothpicks and decorate them however you like. The great part about this small gift is that you need a pot to put the cupcakes on, which you can also decorate and make as personal as you want. Putting a cute quote or just their name makes the whole DIY come together. And who doesn’t love cupcakes for a random gift?!

4. Jars With Scrolls

Lastly, for some close personal friends, a great little gift is a jar filled with small scrolls that have your thoughts about what make that person great. Every time I have done this, people tend to not stop smiling because it’s such a great feeling to know that someone cares about you so much to write memories or things you like about them in this small gift. This is probably one of my favorites because it’s so personal.

For whichever DIY you plan to do for your family or friends, I hope you enjoy your time making them and share a little love with the rest of the world because we need more random acts of kindness!
