14 Ways to Treat Yourself

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at VCU chapter.

After returning to school from spring break to face midterms, we all get a little stressed. Sometimes you have to take a step back and treat yourself. Here are a few ways to show yourself some love:

1. Get your nails done

Show your cuticles some love. Choose a trendy color to make your nails pop or a French manicure for that classic look. You can get a regular manicure if you like to change it up, a gel manicure if you’re committed to a color or acrylics if you aren’t a fan of your real nails.

2. Get a massage or facial

Your body works just as hard as you do, so allow it to take some time off. Get a facial so your beautiful face doesn’t show all of your stress, or get a massage to work out those backaches you get from your loaded backpack.

3. Buy yourself some new clothes

Revamp your style with some new outfits. Get that skirt that you’ve had your eye on and pair it with a cute crop top. Buy a few outfits that you know will rock for the entire season.

4. Eat your favorite unhealthy food

Most of the time it’s a good idea to keep your meals balanced, but in times of stress, treat yourself with some greasy food. Whether it be Chipotle, Taco Bell or Panda Express, don’t deny yourself the right to enjoy a yummy and satisfying meal.

5. Splurge on new make-up products

Go to make-up nirvana. Whether it be at Ulta or Sephora for high end products, or at Target for drugstore products, get a product you’ve been wanting to try or splurge on that eye-shadow palette you’ve been dying to own.

6. Have a ‘girl’s night’

Gather your ladies, get dressed up and go out on the town. Whether it be dinner, dancing or drinks, you can never go wrong with your squad on a night out.

7. Take a bubble bath

Grab your beloved bubble bath and draw a warm bath that’ll be your sanctuary until your skin gets pruned. Put your head back and bask in relaxation and bubbles.

8. Satisfy your sweet tooth

Whether it be cupcakes, cookies, frozen yogurt or ice cream, get your sweet tooth on! You’ve had a long day and you deserve to be greeted with delicious hot fudge.

9. Take a well-deserved nap

Taking a well-deserved nap is a no brainer. Set your alarm if you only have time for a disco nap, it still makes a difference and makes you feel refreshed. Naps for a busy college student is the ultimate treat.

10. Get a Venti of your favorite Starbuck’s drink

Not only does Starbucks keep you awake, it’s also is a treat for your taste buds. It’s hard enough to limit yourself to getting a ‘tall’ size and not gulping it down in five minutes, so get a ‘venti’ every once in a while and bask in your favorite Starbucks flavors.

11. Meditate

Give your mind some peace and quiet with meditation. YouTube meditation music and set your timer for as long as you please. You can stay seated or lay down in ‘savasana’ pose and ease your mind and body.

12. Have a marathon of your favorite show

Start up your favorite show on Netflix and watch as many episodes (or seasons) as you please. Gather your snacks and blankets and get ready to be comforted by your favorite characters.

13. Dress to impress

Stay confident and dress your best just for you. Wear a cute sun dress, slay your hair and makeup game and wear your favorite shoes. Nobody can bring you down.

14. Have a lazy day

Whenever your busy schedule allows, it’s always OK to have a lazy day. Catch up on cleaning your apartment, watch some Netflix, eat some leftovers, wear your sweats and enjoy the never ending comfort of your bed.
