Things to do in Nashville over Fall Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Vanderbilt chapter.

If you’re like me, the first activity you have in mind is probably catching up on the endless hours of sleep you’ve lost so far during this semester. Over these last few weeks, some of us have watched the sun rise again while finishing up that paper due at 9:00 AM. It’s been a rough ride, but we’ve made it to fall break. Take advantage of all the time you have! A lot of people have headed home, and others have gone off on a mini vacation to the beach or Vegas. For those of you staying in Nashville, here are a few ideas for what to do in Nashville

  1. Go to a Pumpkin Patch

Thursdays and Friday morning/early afternoon are a perfect opportunity – you finally won’t be stuck in class, but all the school kids in the area will be! Buy a ticket and enjoy an uninterrupted photo-shoot in the pumpkin field with your friends

  1. Go to the Mall

Using the same weekday logic, Thursday and Friday mornings will be prime time to hit up Opry Mills, which is usually packed on the weekends! Use this time wisely to scout out pieces for your Halloween costume later this month. Don’t leave it till the day before, as usual!

  1. Go to Cummins Falls

You’ve probably seen all the pictures of Vanderbilt students swimming with a waterfall in the background all over Instagram. Being only an hour or so away, this is a perfect day trip to take with your friends in Nashville.

  1. Catch up on your favorite show

I’m still on season four of Game of Thrones (I know, I know, I’m so behind!) and haven’t really had the time to sit and binge it. You can probably guess my #1 to-do item for break.

  1. Go to The Hermitage / Belle Meade Plantation

There are some extremely interesting historical sights to see in Nashville, like the Hermitage or the Belle Meade Plantation. Go be a tourist in your home for a day!

  1. Check restaurants off your Vanderbilt bucket-list

This is the perfect opportunity to go to all the restaurants you’ve been meaning to make it to! Some of my favorites are Marché Artisan Foods for brunch (if you’ve never been, you’re missing out), Local Taco, Americano on West End, and Holland House. If you’re over 21, make sure you go to Patterson House!
