Step by Step Tutorial For Creating the Perfect Beachy Hairstyle

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Vanderbilt chapter.

Since the weather is going to be heating up soon, I thought I would do a fun beachy hair tutorial with a side braid. You can do this hairstyle on freshly washed or second day hair. I love to do it on second day hair because my hair can get a little oily in the front, and the side braid conceals any grease that may have built up during the day before.

This hairstyle can be worn any time of year and with any outfit, but I personally prefer to rock it during the warmer months with a dress and sandals. Now, I know that many of you freak out when it comes to hairstyles, but there is no need to worry because my tutorial is simple and fail-proof. My hair naturally has some wave to it, but it doesn’t matter how long, what color, or what texture your hair is because this hairstyle will look great on everyone. I have received many compliments when I style my hair this way, and once you learn how to do it, I am sure you will receive the same recognition. So whithout further ado, let’s go through the basic steps of this hair tutorial.

Once I’ve washed my hair,  I put in two pumps of Aveda’s smooth infusion and a couple of drops of Ojon’s damage reverse instant restorative hair repair serum. These products are perfect for hair that has any kind of texture because they are smoothing but also prevented that unwanted frizz. I then blow-dry my hair halfway and leave the rest to air dry, which will leave me with slightly wavy hair.

Next, I start curling my hair with the infiniti conical wand by Conair. I love this clampless curler because it makes really natural looking waves, which are perfect for this beachy hairstyle. I will usually clip my hair up and do the underneath section first, and then I will keep letting sections down until my entire head is curled. I will usually spray each section with a bit of hairspray after it has been curled, but this is not necessary. I leave the front two pieces on either side uncurled because this is the hair that I will use to make the braid.

This hairstyle is simple but cute, and the best part is that anyone can wear it. I love this beachy style because there is no way that you can mess up, and it will look as though you spent a long time doing your hair, when in reality, it will take about ten to fifteen minutes. If you tend to be very one-dimensional with your hair, then I highly recommend trying this hairstyle in the upcoming months. It is the finishing touch to any outfit, so before you walk out the door in your latest spring dress, spend ten minutes doing your hair. You will receive a ton of compliments and look stylish and trendy this spring.

Stacey Oswald, originally from South Florida, came to Vanderbilt as a member of the class of 2015 and got involved with HerCampus her freshman year. She became assistant editor that year and is now the Campus Correspondent for Vanderbilt HC as a sophomore. Stacey is currently a columnist for Ask Miss A- Nashville and the life section of The Hustler. She's also very involved in her sorority, Kappa Delta, as well as Invisible Children. Outside of school and her extracurriculars, Stacey finds happiness in many sources, the most crucial being exercise and the sun. She loves to attend exercise classes and is an avid runner; she recently completed the Country Music Half Marathon. She also loves Vitamin D, especially when on the beach- though of course, she only soaks up the sun after applying SPF. A few of the things Stacey couldn't live without? Good food (especially from Sweet Cece's, Bricktops, and Samurai Sushi), great books (The Hypnotist's Love Story is a recent favorite), her family back in Florida, her wonderful boyfriend, and all of the great friends she's made at Vanderbilt.
