The Curse of a Good Closet

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Vanderbilt chapter.

I believe in retail therapy. There’s nothing like finding the perfect thing for the perfect price, especially if you’re feeling down! However, my fashion appetite can also drain my wallet, and as a college student, I have a pretty limited budget.
While I admit that most of my extra cash goes toward my closet, I’ve been trying to save some of it for other things! As a personal goal, I’ve been trying to explore more of Nashville since I am so lucky to have a school right in the city! As a result, my shopping savvy is becoming more finely tuned. Here are some of my new and improved habits!

  • I try to keep a mental list of things I really want to add to my closet. It is helpful to keep a few things in mind so that they are the first things I buy when I have a little extra cash to spend.
  • Getting spam emails are annoying, but staying on the email list for your favorite stores is a great way to know when they have amazing sales! It is totally worth it, and deleting any other pesky emails takes literally a second.
  • Head to outlet stores for great deals! I have had some great experiences at outlet malls, which are amazing and gigantic and have everything you could ever want!
  • Shop online but head to the store if you can. That way you save on shipping and can grab a delish Auntie Anne’s pretzel instead.
  • Become a member for extra discounts or extra products (like at Sephora), and sometimes even free shipping for online shopping!
