How did he become a cheerleader? How does one become a Vanderbilt cheerleader??? Well, in Ben’s case it was all because of a Facebook photo. Ben’s profile picture is of him doing the splits in the Garden of Versailles. He realized he could do the splits during a trivia game at his high school and has used it as his “party trick” ever since. When a handful of Vanderbilt Cheer members saw his profile, they found him and asked him to join.
What’s the most surprising part about cheerleading? The most surprising part for him was how ‘easy’ it was for him. Propelling a girl several feet into the air isn’t something most people naturally know how to do, but Ben picked up on the techniques reeaally quickly and is at the same performance level of seasoned male cheerleaders thanks to his talented stunt partner and his insane flexibility.
Fun fact: Ben started playing football in the sixth grade and intended to play here at Vanderbilt, but ended up trying out for cheerleading and joining the cheer team!
