Workout Sesh: 3 Group Fitness Classes to Try

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Valdosta chapter.

When it comes to working out, one of everyone’s favorite sayings is, “I’ll just start tomorrow.” After a while tomorrow becomes next week, which then eventually leads to a month, then next thing you know it’s a year later and you still haven’t made it to the gym. In some cases you do end up making it to the gym on a regular basis, but the workouts may become tedious and routine.

I was one of those people that worked out everyday, but eventually became tired of doing the same thing. That is when I discovered group fitness classes!

The Valdosta REC center offers a variety of group fitness classes Monday through Friday. Here are just a few classes you should definitely check out if you want to get out of your workout routines and lose weight in a fun way!

1. Zumba

My roommate and I decided to try out zumba for the first time this semester. Having never been to a zumba class before, I really didn’t know what to expect. I also didn’t realize how much of a workout you get from just dancing for 50 minutes! Zumba is great if you want a good workout for your core and legs. Trust me, you will be sore for a few days! Zumba is offered Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday at 6pm and Wednesdays at 8pm!

2. Cycling

I have been riding bikes ever since I was little, so I was super excited when I found out about the group fitness cycling class. Cycling is another great class for working out your legs. However, most of the instructors of cycling also like to incorporate an arm workout into the routine. That way you are getting a full body workout, and not just toning up your legs.

If you want to get a head start on your day and get your workout out of the way, the class is offered Monday through Thursday at 6am. If that is a little too early, it is also offered at 4pm Monday through Wednesday. There is also a class offered at 8pm on Monday, and 9am on Friday!

3. Tank Top Arms

This is one of my favorite classes to attend. If you really want a good arm workout I fully suggest you try to make it to this class. Before I started the class I could barely do three push-ups, but after taking it for three weeks, I am now up to 10 push-ups! This class is kind of a challenge at first, but after a while you will start to see some definition in your arms, which makes it all worth it! This class is offered on Tuesdays at 7pm!

Those are just a few of the group fitness classes offered at the REC Center. Group fitness is a great way to meet new people and get in a good workout while having fun! Everyone goes at their own pace, and the instructors are really helpful and encouraging!  I know we as college students have super busy schedules, but if you have time to make it to one of the group fitness classes, they are definitely worth it and a great stress reliever!
