Keep Calm and Get Things Done: 5 Tips For Getting Through Stress

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Valdosta chapter.

As the school year is beginning, you may find yourself with a lot on your plate and having problems prioritizing what’s important to you. I can personally tell you that school just started and I’m already trying to figure out how I can make things easier going forward into the semester!

Being in an organization and a sorority, going to class, going to work, having an internship, doing homework and having a boyfriend takes up a lot of my time. Therefore, it’s important for me prioritize and be organized! Here are a few tips to ease you into the semester!

Tip 1: Keep an agenda or calendar and constantly UPDATE it!

Having a calendar or agenda is so important! Always writing down what’s going on in your life and what’s coming up in the future will help keep things in perspective. Also, color-coding what events are important can help you remember what’s going on! I always keep important things in pink and other events in green!

Tip 2: Have a good spirit!

Always commend yourself for the amazing things you do. Know that you make mistakes and that you can’t be perfect at everything.  Every day isn’t going to be sunshine and rainbows, but love yourself for who you are at this very moment and make the best of it!

Tip 3: Sleep, Eat and Exercise!

We all know that we’re lacking in this area. Not having time, money or energy are the main reasons why these three things don’t get done the way they’re supposed to!  A good night’s rest can always help you start your day off right and make everything a lot less stressful. Eat more fruits, veggies, protein and whole grains to keep your mind and stomach right! Sometimes, just a walk around the park can help you cool down from a really hard day!

Tip 4: Get some quiet time!

Having your own personal space is so important! Even if you are living in the same room as someone else, try to find some moments to spend by yourself. Just getting away from a stressful environment can help you recharge and reduce some of that stress.

Tip 5: Remember what you’re in school for!

Lastly, try to remember why you actually came to VSU! Although you came to learn and focus on your academics, the college experience involves so much more. The balance is what make things stressful. It often feels like there can’t possibly be enough hours in the day for you to get everything completed, and sometimes you can’t. That’s okay! One person can only handle so much, so learn when to say no! You have to pass your classes before you can be an amazing reporter, designer, or writer.

Stay positive!
