Summer is over, and school is now in session. Classes have officially began at VSU which means books have to be bought…unfortunately. I for one completely understand the funds struggle of being a college student. So, over the last few years I have adopted a few tips and tricks when it comes to buying those expensive textbooks. Keep reading to see how you can save yourself some extra coins.

1.  N E V E R Buy New

This is probably the biggest mistake you could make when purchasing textbooks. Why? Because when books are new they are at their expensive climax. I mean the prices of these books can get so ridiculous at times. Like $100+ per book. Just DON’T do it! The only time I would recommend purchasing a book new is when you have to have an access code. But there are ways around that too, like purchasing the access code straight from the website, and using the online book…if you don’t mind that.

2. Borrow Books

Finding people who have taken your classes before is a great option, and also probably the cheapest option. Some may sell it to you for barely nothing and if you get in good with some people they may let you just borrow it for the semester. This option has saved me so much money. Oh, and if you don’t personally know someone do not be afraid to use your social media to ask.

3. Rent

Renting is your next best option in my opinion. Nowadays, you can rent from just about anywhere locally or online. Like the VSU bookstore, Dorks, Chegg (which is my favorite), Amazon, and the list just goes on and on. When it’s time to send them back most online places give you free shipping to ship it back so it’s really a win win situation.

4. Buy Used

Buying used can sometimes be expensive, but it’s still cheaper than buying new. If there is a used option take it. I recommend buying used books from Dorks which is right down the street.

Oh, and side note…Do not be afraid to ask if a place price matches. Most do, but they won’t tell you upfront unless you ask. So ask!

Good luck on your semester. HCXO!
