How to Achieve an Effortless Face for School

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UWindsor chapter.

As students who are often sleep deprived, we all strive for a quick and easy makeup look that won’t take up your entire morning. With early mornings and long school hours, having the most amount of time in bed before getting ready is the best, so this makeup look is essential for those of you who are not morning people! All of the products used for this look are affordable drugstore products- ideal for us students on a budget.

The first thing to do after waking up is to wash and prep your skin for the day, regardless if you are  wearing makeup or not. To begin with your daily morning skincare routine,

use any one of your favourite cleansers, for example, the Biore Deep Pore Charcoal Cleanser. This wash is a great daily  cleanser, especially for those who have oily skin as the charcoal in the wash aids towards removing blackheads and excess oil. To moisturize, use any daily moisturizer, such as the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel. This is a great daily moisturizer to use prior to makeup application as it is an oil-free gel with a very lightweight and hydrating formula. Lastly, apply a lip balm to prep your lips before your makeup, which will make applying lipstick later on much more smooth and easy. A great, affordable lip balm is the EOS lip balm in Vanilla Mint.

After prepping your skin, your are ready for foundation. A great everyday foundation is the Maybelline Fit Me, Matte and Poreless foundation. This foundation is perfect for everyday wear as it has a light-medium coverage and feels very natural on the skin. Unlike other foundations that can exaggerate pores on the skin, this foundation blurs and perfects the skin and lasts around 6-8 hours which is ideal for school!

To conceal your under eye area and to highlight the face, an amazing concealer is the Maybelline Fit Me concealer. Using a concealer 2-3 shades lighter than your complexion will brighten up any area of the face you highlight and give the illusion of more prominent features. This concealer is beneficial since it is very lightweight, yet still provides a great amount of coverage without creasing throughout the day.

To set your foundation and concealer, using a sheer powder is ideal to set the face. A good quality powder is the Pixi Flawless Beauty Powder. This is a great powder for setting your makeup in place without adding extra coverage. Doing this step will ensure your foundation doesn’t slide around on your face, while still giving a natural, healthy look to the skin.

Now that the face is generally flat looking, to add more warmth and liveliness to the face, add a very warmed toned bronzer around the perimeters of the face, not contouring, but slightly bronzing up your complexion. To do so, the Rimmel London Shimmering Maxi Bronzer is an awesome product for this. For blush, any shade that suites your skin tone is ideal, such as Milani cosmetics baked blush. This blush gives a very healthy, natural glow since the colour is close to the natural flush your cheeks have. The blush has a very beautiful gold shimmer which gives a dewy, glowing look to the skin.

Keeping the eyes simple is ideal for school since we usually don’t have enough time for a smoked- out cat eye in the morning. In order to “contour” the eyes, and add a little more depth, taking the bronzer we used to warm up our face, on a large blending brush, blend that into the crease to give some definition. Then apply your favourite mascara and the eyes are complete!

To finish off the look, apply any lipstick shade that you feel most confident in., Since this look is so simple, any shade of lipstick is completely wearable. For an example of a classic mauve lip, taking Milani Color Statement Lipstick in the shade “Naturally Chic” which is a brown/mauve shade, and applying all over the lips. Then, to add some depth and fullness, taking Milani’s lipstick in the shade “Nude Creme”, apply this directly to the center, and blend the two together.

That completes the entire look! This look is great for both school and work, or just an everyday routine. This is very wearable for all ages whether you’re in high school or university/college. Thank you for stopping by, HC readers, xo.
