Throughout my time in college I have learned many things. I have mastered the art of knowing just how many times I can snooze my alarm clock and still (barely) make it to class on time. I have learned how to go a full day without eating a properly cooked meal (sorry mom), and I now know that if Quizlet doesn’t have the answer, I’m basically doomed. Just kidding, just kidding. There is always Study Force.

All jokes aside, college has stretched me and thrown me for a few loops here and there but with each early morning, cup of coffee and mental breakdown, I’ve made it through with a few lessons tucked away. I may not have acquired an A in every course or even retained the information for more than an hour after the midterm, but I did take away some things that will take me a lot farther than knowing how to solve every quadratic equation ever will.

1.    Learn to embrace change.

Don’t stay stagnant, keep growing and keep changing. At every point in your life strive to improve in your relationships, in your career, within your character, etc. Change may be scary, but these changes will help you develop.

2.    Accept that you will never know everything, but maybe Google will.

Google has remained one of my unified partners in crime. This is usually the first place I look when I’m not sure what I’m doing. However, accept that you won’t always know how to do everything you’re asked. Whether it is from school to work, I’ve learned the hard way is that sometimes it’s better to ask questions than always trying to figure things out on your own.

3.    Don’t be late.

I am telling you few things are worse than walking into class completely out of breath, shuffling your way to your seat while everyone acknowledges you for disrupting the scene…just leave a little earlier. You’re always going to have deadlines, so go ahead and get used to meeting those now.

4.    Get to know the people around you.

No matter what you’re doing in life, you’re going to be around people. Truly get to know these people and make some lasting connections. Care about others around you because at the end of the day that is what truly matters. You can never have too many people who care about you, so lend a helping hand and be that person for others.

5.    Love the imperfect, crazy and messy life you have.

Some mornings when my alarm clock rings (obviously you can tell I’m no morning person by now) I get so mad and cranky starting the day off with the wrong attitude. I always have to remind myself that as cliché as it sounds, each day is a blessing. We are blessed with another day to create something new, learn new things and achieve whatever we want. The coolest part is that you get to decide how your day is going to go. Even if that means binge watching your favorite show on Netflix (I’m a firm believer that you can never watch too much Greys Anatomy). Even though your day to day lives may get busy, enjoy your journey and the imperfect, crazy life you live.
