Confidence looks good on everyone, amiright? But sometimes, people and circumstances can affect our confidence, causing our self-esteem to drop. But people shouldn’t have that kind of control on your life anymore. So here are 5 ways to be (and stay) confident this year.

1. Know your worth: you’re unique, one-of-a-kind. There’s literally only one of you in this entire world. You were created with a purpose only you can fulfill. Once you wrap your head around that, you’ll walk through this life with your head (and confidence) held high.

2. Shake it off: Taylor said it best: “Haters gonna hate.” The thing to understand is, not everyone will like you, and that’s okay. You’re still awesome. Remember that and the petty things people say will have nothing on you.

3. Dress the part: I constantly see girls on social media posting pictures of them wearing sweatshirts and sweatpants, with a caption along the lines of “I look like a potato.” They’re all gorgeous, but they wouldn’t think they looked like a potato if they did their hair and wore a cute outfit! Not saying you have to dress fabulous everyday (unless you want to, I’m not against that), but at least put some effort into the way you look. Not only will that boost your confidence, but you’ll also make a ton of good first impressions!

4. Compliment others: I hear this one a lot, and from experience, it seems accurate. I usually always feel good after I compliment someone on their hair or shoes or outfit. Even if they don’t reply the way you want them to, you know you’ve done your part. So continue to feel good about yourself, ‘kay?

5. Gratitude: I’ve found that being thankful for the people and things in my life has not only helped me to be content, but it also boosts my confidence. Rather than begin focused on what this person or that person is doing with their life, I’m mindful of the good things in my life.
