Many of you may not know, but I am an aspiring CSSE major and to get more of my skills out into the world, I have been applying to internships and trying to take on more personal projects. A great way to get started with getting your work out there and working with others to learn more and show off your skills is GitHub. It’s a place for displaying your personal projects and getting others involved in helping you transform your code.

I am starting by doing a really simple game in Java (the first language I learned). A good idea to keep in mind while sharing projects on GitHub is to share your knowledge as well as your growth. Know a little bit of Java? Basic functions? Build a calculator or something equivalent to display your knowledge and your ability to apply it. Of course as you go on these projects will get more complex, but it’s good to get into the habit of posting with new skills you’ve learned (to stay up to date with your resume for employers). GitHub is also a great place to help other people with their projects and get feedback on your own. With over 3.5 million users, GitHub is a large community where someone will be willing to assist you or let you assist them as long as you reach out.

Here are some helpful links to get you started, and I’ll keep you guys posted as I learn more!

GitHub also has their own Guides, YouTube Channels and Training if you need it. Take it easy and happy coding!
